3 mistakes from my first time vlogging

I bought myself a gimbal and tried vlogging. Here's what went wrong.

My first vlog

Vlogging in public is weird. Even when you know that people don't really care about you, you need to overcome this mental barrier to actually hit record. I did a small X video from my car as a test and then shot my first vlog from the Prague airport on my leave to Bangkok. The video got 131 views, 1 positive comment and my channel 6 subscribers. I tried to shoot some video footage from my trip but haven't really published anything else. So, what went wrong?

1. New channel

So the first problem was starting a fresh new channel. Since I have never vlogged I thought I would create a new channel for it. My original channel had only 52 subscribers I was fine starting at 0, but there was one more problem. What I haven't realised was that the new channel would need to be confirmed again for me to include custom thumbnails. And unfortunately I couldn't fixed it when abroad. It just didn't crossed my mind that if I uploaded thumbnails to my first channel I wouldn't be able to do it with a new one, despite my account being the same.

2. iPhone

I wanted to start vlogging with minimal gear which meant reusing my phone for this purpose. So I bought a gimbal, learned some basics on how to use it, and off I went. This is clever in theory because iPhone has a great camera and the sync with iCloud makes things really straight-forward. The problem was I couldn't easily switch horizontal to vertical, switch front to back camera, and I couldn't use my phone while shooting. Putting the phone on the gimbal with the audio receiver also wasn't fun.

3. Gimbal

I think I messed up my gimbal although I am not aware of when. The phone with audio receiver barely balanced but I noticed in my later shorts that no matter what I do it tilts to the side. I tried to recalibrate it but to no vein. I can still probably use it with a smaller camera or my phone in vertical mode, but the standard horizontal mode is just not 100% straight and it bothers me.

Fin

So there you have it. I will try to make another blog soon with a new camera. And I'll post again on my channel. There is no point in having many channels for me anyways as I don't even know what I'll end up publishing.
